Will We Continue to Afflict the Afflicted?
Here’s the thing about Medicaid: It helps a lot of low-income Americans (in Missouri, extremely low-income residents). It has the potential to help a lot more people, thanks to the Affordable Care Act. In Missouri, as many as 260,000 of our friends and neighbors could be insured if …and it’s now a big IF… our legislators can agree to expand the program.
Since the federal government will pay for the full cost of Medicaid expansion for three years, and since this will benefit residents, hospitals, and health care providers, and since it will bring both money and jobs to Missouri, you will perhaps understand why some of us think our legislators may be short-sighted.
But forget about the motives. Come to our program on Thursday, April 11, and get the “inside track” from those who know, and may actually understand, what is going on with Medicaid expansion in Missouri. Sidney Watson will moderate a panel consisting of representatives from the Missouri Department of Social Services, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the Missouri Hospital Association. Four other local organizations are co-sponsoring this program with us.
Read more about it HERE and bring a friend to join us on April 11.

What you need to know and do about ALEC
Through the corporate-funded American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), global corporations and state politicians vote behind closed doors to try to rewrite state laws that govern your rights. These so-called “model bills” reach into almost every area of American life and often directly benefit huge corporations. In ALEC’s own words, corporations have “a VOICE and a VOTE” on specific changes to the law that are then proposed in your state. DO YOU? This site provides numerous resources that exposes the real deal about ALEC.
